After living in Wanaka for nearly 10 years we are now based in a tiny seaside town a couple of hours south of Queenstown. BUT we travel to film nearly all our weddings in Queenstown. There is no charge for travel to the region and for other areas just get in touch
Andrea and Simon’s wedding was not your ordinary Queenstown wedding, nor were their videos your everyday garden variety. A couple of reasons for this:
1. They were already married but for many reasons never had a mates, lovable priest, bubbles, flash frock, pretty cake, dancing till dawn, proper wedding. And to declare publicly how much you love each other in a wedding, after already experiencing the highs and lows of marriage, is a genuine and moving event.
Andrea and Simon’s Queenstown Wedding – Teaser Film
2. Lip synching, stop motion, smooth dance moves, a stunning setting, gorgeous couple, cute kids, happy (slightly drunk) guests = general awesomeness. Andrea and Simon, bridesmaids, groomsmen, their children and their guests were quite frankly, amazing! And you’ll probably have to watch their wedding videos (especially the short feature) to understand exactly why.
We planned with Andrea and Simon ahead of time to do something a bit different for their short feature film. They’d seen some lip-synching clips they liked. We had a song we loved (not a typical wedding song) licensed and waiting for the right couple. They loved it and we were all go to make a rocking short feature for their Queenstown Wedding.
Andrea and Simon’s Queenstown Wedding – Short Feature Film
On the day itself, time with Simon getting ready was tight but the man can pull out some seriously slick moves at the word go. Throughout the day Andrea and Simon were stars! We’re very grateful that they were so relaxed and open to all our suggestions. Everyone got into the spirit of a slightly mad idea and made it work.
Their short feature was a riot, loads of fun to film and make but our favourite is their long feature. A combination of the groomsmen’s speech and truly beautiful words from their priest made a moving and lovely film. Plus a Queenstown wedding has an instant advantage as the scenery is pretty damn amazing.

Simon and I and our 2 rascals are sitting here with tears in our eyes. We are both moved and the kids are making smoochy kissy noises!
We didn’t get a chance to watch it until this morning – no bubbles or Pinot, but none required. We love it!!!!! Using the boys’ poem and Peter’s words is genius and a great mix. Love the music, footage and way you’ve put it all together. Everything about it is magic and really captures the spirit of the day.
We really appreciate your talents and can’t thank you enough really. What a fab team. About to watch it again…..and again……

We were more than tickled when we heard that after seeing one of our films at a reception back in the US that we made for their friends, Mona and Steve decided that’s how they wanted to get married and they wanted us to make their Wanaka wedding video. Well ok then! With some fantastic planning (as usual) from The Wedding Company we were all set!
A ceremony at the very luxurious Whare Kea Lodge followed by a mountain hop from Coromandel Peak in Wanaka to Cecil Peak in Queenstown via helicopter and Rolls, is a pretty stylish way to do it. But forget the stunning lake and mountain vistas, it’s the beautiful words they have to say about each other and that ‘I can’t believe how lucky I am’ twinkle in Steve’s eye that steals the scene every time.

UPDATE: Very chuffed to discover Mona and Steve’s wedding and video will be featured in Destination Weddings and Honeymoon magazine and website early next year! Watch this space for when it comes out.
“What a pleasant surprise!! Steve and I watched it together and were both in tears (well I’m not supposed to say that about Steve:) Please let Scott know that he has a beautiful way of telling a story and touching hearts. This is the most beautiful movie we’ve ever seen. I cry every single time I watch the video. Scott’s simply an amazing story teller!! Thank you, thank you!”

Welcome to the new Sunshine – new Sunshine website, new Sunshine logo and our Sunshine ethos – Making People Smile.
As happens in business as well as life, Sunshine has evolved and grown significantly over the past wee while. We’ve had exhaustive conversations about what exactly we want a Sunshine film to be. What’s our style? What do we love about wedding videos? And how do we make our films to be your films too?
Here’s what we came up with:
Our style is to make predominantly happy films. We have yet to film a wedding that didn’t involve at least two very happy people. A Sunshine film will still be beautiful, layered and bring out the odd tear, but any footage looking awkward, stressed or scowling is not going to make the cut. Natural radiant smiles and twinkling eyes is what we’re looking for.
What we LOVE about wedding videos is the ability to capture an atmosphere, movement, sounds, speeches, glances, gestures: candid and real moments that when edited and woven together can tell a story of a time, place and people. We LOVE that your (future?) children or grandchildren will be able to watch one day and know you just a bit better.
We use the same cameras that many photographers do – because they also take amazing video footage. A good film will have a cinematic look, be thoughtfully composed, beautifully shot, have clear, natural audio and sound and not make you cringe. Finally it will be creatively and seamlessly edited to make you want to watch it all the way to the end, and then want to watch it again, and again.
Finally, it’s important for every film we make to be a Sunshine-style film but it’s just as important for it not to be a formula. Every couple is different, their journey, their story and their experience, so every wedding is also different. Our challenge (and what we love most) is to make your story and show you on film. It’s not just a film of a wedding, it’s a film of a relationship, a film of a history and a future.
So after figuring out what is a Sunshine Wedding Film, we wanted to make our brand better match our ethos. Being a graphic designer as well means that it still may change, but for now welcome to our new wedding video website, with our new logo and a brand spanking new blog and watch some of our films.

This was the FIRST WEDDING EVER on Mitre Peak Milford Sound. Mitre Peak is a majestic sight, rising just over a mile from the water of the Sound. As one of the most photographed peaks in the country (from the bottom) and over a million people flocking to Milford Sound every year I was of course pretty excited to film Christine and Ben’s elopement heli wedding. But I have to admit, I was a little bit more excited that there would be no photographer! 99% of the time a photographer does not have a videographer present but never the other way around. (The pics in this post are stills from the footage) While initially a bit nervous about being the only record they would have for the day, I quickly got over that and relished the chance to work unobstructed without the constant click, click flash, hold it there, now look this way babble of those pesky photographers.
Christine and Ben had originally planned to fly out of Lake Tekapo. With our new family dynamics we no longer travel that far so was incredibly touched when they changed their plans to fly from Queenstown so I could film. The weather was perfect and everything went to plan. Which is pretty damn lucky as Milford Sound is one of the wettest places in the world with up to 10 metres of rain a year.
One aspect about heli-weddings I particularly enjoy is when I can spend a little longer with the couple. We hung out for a bit in Queenstown and had a bit of a chat on camera. Christine’s words are amazing. From here I’ll let the video do the talking.

One thing about having a young baby is you’re often up in the early hours – and enjoying a few glasses of wine is not the reason! It was during one of these late night sessions that Scott first discovered you could see an aurora from our front yard. Ever since, he’s been the one more likely to be up in the wee hours developing his new found hobby of night photography and creating an aurora timelapse video of the Southern Lights. The paddock across the street has still turned out to be the favourite spot to film from. Not because of the view or ideal composition, but apparently because you can take your wine and pop inside to keep warm while you’re waiting for the good stuff to happen.

What do you get when you take a girl from Ranfurly and a bloke from Alexandra, local firefighters, volunteers, an amazing community spirit, a couple of flash cars and a bit of a do at the Alexandra Club? Possibly one of the most heartwarming, genuine weddings we’ve been lucky enough to attend.
Sometimes, it’s just all about the people – and we love that. Priceless.

We love a Millbrook Resort wedding and loved making this wedding video. Big kudos to Kim and Ian (bride and groom) for a few reasons:
1. So far, Ian is the only groom we’ve had do a running cartwheel and back flip tumbling manouevre in a suit. On his wedding day.
2. So far, Kim is the only bride we’ve had who could pull off a cracking golf swing without taking out her new husband’s teeth in the process. Or our camera! Which is a brave call when the camera op you’re aiming at is 8 months pregnant.
3. Best bride and groom entrance ever with moves so energetic our old aching bodies needed a sit down and a cuppa after just watching them.

Oh my god both videos are AMAZING!!!! To say we love them is an understatement. Thank you sooo very much for capturing our wedding day in the way that you have, it is exactly how I hoped it would be, “dancing, fun, love and family”. This has to be one of the best christmas presents and we cannot wait to share it with everyone!
Thanks again you have truly outdone yourself.

Every film we make contains a little piece of us that we get to package up and send away, hoping our couples love it as much as we do. So it makes our day whenever we hear what their film means to them. Here's a few recent comments.
Beck & James
"Firstly may I say we are most pleased with the outcome. Both of us love, love, love, the short and the music you picked for the clip was perfect!!!! The clip was cheeky, natural, and edited beautifully."
Andrea & Simon
"Wow wow wow! Needless to say, we both have massive smiles on our faces! We are absolutely thrilled with the result! We had high expectations after the teaser but you've exceeded them. You even make us look good!
It is seriously fabulous and we feel very fortunate to have found you and let you loose on us! The way you've put it together is stunning, entertaining and really captures the mood. The timing is exquisite and must have taken you ages. We've watched it twice and wanted to thank you straight away."

"THANK YOU so much for capturing the most amazing moment of our lives. I have watched the videos so many times and feel the love so strongly each time. We are so happy you were there to film our wedding and the excitement around it."
Lisa & Joe
"A big thank you for our wonderful video - we LOVE IT! You captured the most beautiful parts of the day, especially Joe's reaction to the helicopter and the panicked look as we took off! Nice idea that you ask the bride and groom to say a few words beforehand - lots of emotion in those words!"
Amy & Rhys
"Thank you so much for the incredible videos. We have watched them again and again, each time fighting back tears. The teaser has been enjoyed by many of our friends and family who can't stop raving about how awesome it is!
We are so, so pleased that a) we decided to get a video and b) that we got you two to film it. You have been a pleasure to deal with every step of the way.
Thank you again, we can't wait to show it to our children one day!"
Mika & Robbie
"...it really captured our personalities and the music was just perfect! I'm so happy with the editing and that the sound wasn't distorted from all the wind! What a wonderful job you've done all combined with baby duties!! BRAVO to you three!
It's a wonderful day to relive a day that flies by. My friend said, 'Wow that's your wedding video? It wasn't even boring!" I think coming from a bloke that's quite a compliment. Thanks again guys."
